Tween 85 /Polysorbate 85/T85
Polysorbate 85, also known as polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan trioleate consists of sorbitol, ethylene oxide and oleic acid. It has a molecular formula of C100H188O28. At room temperature, it is in the form of a pale-yellow to orange oily liquid. It is an O/W emulsifier with an HLB value of 11.0. It is soluble in ethanol, ethyl acetate and acetone; it is also soluble in most mineral and vegetable oil. And it can disperse in water. In crude oil production, polysorbate 85 acts as emulsifier.
Tween 85 is used as an emulsifier, foaming agent, lubricant, solubilizer, antistatic agent, and dispersing agent in industrial product formulations.
